Mascot Fight at the Summit League Championship - Plus other battles
Unlike the other battles this championship week, that fight was broken up after some feelings were hurt during a mascot dance off. In the game, Oral Roberts defeated IUPUI 71-64.
Along with Oral Roberts, 13 other teams have already clinched their spots in the NCAA Tournament by winning their conference tournaments.
Belmont (Atlantic Sun), Portland St. (Big Sky), Wintrhop (Big South), George Mason (Colonial), Butler (Horizon), Cornell (Ivy League), Siena (MAAC), Drake (MVC), Mt. St. Mary’s (Northeast), Austin Peay (OVC), Davidson (Southern), Western Kentucky (Sun Belt) and San Diego (WCC) make up the list of conference tournament champions. With the exception of Drake and Davidson, all the other winners should be seeded in the No. 13 through the No. 16 range. I think that Drake will be a No. 6 seed and Davidson to be seeded in the No. 7 through the No. 10 range.
Many of bigger conferences started play on Wednesday.
Dayton had a big 63-62 win in overtime over St. Louis. The win keeps UD on the bubble and a win today against Xavier would probably ensure them a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Villanova beat up Syracuse by a score of 82-63. I believe the win knocks Syracuse out and puts Nova in. Some analysts are saying that Nova has to beat Georgetown today, which I think is a lot to ask, but could happen since the last time these two teams met, GTOWN won on a controversial call.
Charlotte kept its hopes alive with a win over Rhode Island. More importantly, the URI loss opens things up for a different A-10 to make the tournament. It looks like Xavier and UMASS are in, but there should be a third team. It is down to Dayton, St. Joseph’s, Temple and Charlotte.
